Pitru Paksha 2021 – Annadaan (Food Donation) Updates – Day 10, 11 and 12

Under Mohanji’s guidance, Gurulight in association with Ammucare is performing annadaan (food donation), under the ACT4Hunger banner, at powerful spiritual power centers, during the auspicious period of Pitru Paksha.

The collective funds are being dispersed across all these locations and all the beings so that the donors derive maximum benefit.

Over the last three days, we arranged for meals for around ten thousand beings across India. It varies from 3 meals a day at Rishikesh, Haridwar to two meals a day in Varanasi to a single but wholesome square meal in Shirdi, Sri Sailam, Gangapur, Tiruvannamalai, various locations in Mumbai (Dadar, Mahim, Ambernath, Badlapur and Ganeshpuri), Jammu and Katra.

In keeping with Mohanji’s philosophy of compassion beyond species, the feeding encompasses all – renunciates, needy/old/sick people, cows, dogs, monkeys, fishes, birds, etc. Our volunteers have also been serving animals at various animal shelters at Sanjay Gandhi Animal Centre, Delhi, Welfare for Animals (WAG) in Goa, Gaushala in Jammu, Badlapur, Mumbai Kabutarkhana as well locations frequented by these beings. Our goal was to serve the beings of the land, beings of the air, beings of the water in addition to human beings. This is a blessing for most of these beings who struggle to get even one proper meal a day.

Our volunteers have reached out to many – leprosy patients and their children, sewage and street workers, migrant labourers, slum dwelling families to transgender communities, homeless people on the streets and pilgrims / sadhus at various spiritual power centres.

Thanks to your generous support, we have expanded to support rations for the transgender community in Mumbai. We have also included feeding sweets and food for children across the various Mohanji ka Aangans (supplementary education and nutrition for schoolchildren) across India.

The food served at many of these locations is part of Ammucare’s Livelihood Project which provides livelihood to many underprivileged people who prepare the food for the annadaan (food distribution). Hence, your donations not only help feed the beings but also support many families involved in the food distribution.

Our deepest and heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters and volunteers who are managing the food distribution selflessly and allowing us to keep our costs minimal and ensure that all our funds are disbursed to those that need them most. Their joy of serving these beings across species is incomparable.

It feels so beautiful to feed the animals very early in the morning at the Sanjay Gandhi animal care centre. Sometimes, we wake up very early at 4am, buy vegetables and fruits from the early morning wholesale market and reach the animal care centre before dawn to feed the rescued animals. Even before the in-house caretakers wake up. Over time, one develops and shares a unique bond with them. The whole experience is something really special.

We will always remember these moments as beautiful opportunities to serve all these lovely beings with deep gratitude in our hearts in the name of our ancestors. The feeling of love unites us as we serve these abandoned and sick rescued animals at the Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre which is the oldest and largest animal care centre in Delhi. It was fun to see the monkeys stealing food away from the cows, taking advantage of their reduced mobility. I was overwhelmed to see these beings (monkeys and cows) eat with so much happiness. What a heart warming sight! Bless all the donors. Bless all these beings! Thank you Mohanji for this beautiful opportunity. It fills our hearts with gratitude and lights up our faces with smiles
